Clarity and self-evidence characterize Hubert Kiecol’s works. The artist achieves this reduction through the compaction of simple forms. Since the eighties he has developed a sculptural vocabulary which shows an impressive variety despite its strictness. His subjects are stairs, steles, houses, windows etc. Concrete has become his favourite material, the artificial stone of modern age, which he releases through his forms and his careful scale decisions from everyday life. Through his strategy his works gain a laconic monumentality, however, they are never overwhelming but contain a poetic element. Through the arrangement of the three stairs the square basic shape of the sculpture “Journey to…” remains open and a dynamic process is set in motion.
